5. Samuel² Cowperthwaite (Jonathan¹) was born on 11 Apr 1789 in New Egypt, Ocean County, NJ. He married Mary Gunsalus, daughter of Richard Gunsalus and Eustatia Ann Lucas. He died before 1850.
He and Mary Gunsalus appeared on the census of 1820 in Howard Township, Centre County, PA.¹ He and Mary Gunsalus appeared on the census of 1830 in Howard Township, Centre County, PA.² He and Mary Gunsalus appeared on the census of 1840 in Canton, Fulton County, IL.³
